I draw fish for a living
I wanted to talk a little about my day job in this post. I work as a 2D Illustrator for a fantastic company called Big Viking Games. I seriously can’t overstate how awesome this company is. We get perks like breakfast and lunch, massages, and a fund for our personal development, but it’s also just a friendly and social place to work. I’ve made fantastic friendships and there’s always something fun going on.
I work for a facebook game called Fish World, it’s a fish tank simulator that allows you to collect creatures and decorate tanks for them to live in. I draw a lot of the realistic-looking fish and decorations in the game. The things I draw are all vector graphics, which means they are drawn mathematically by the computer instead of being an image like a JPEG. This allows the file sizes to be tiny, even though each fish has a lot of detail on it, so the game will run smoothly.
When I was a little girl, The Little Mermaid was huge for me, and I would fill sketchbooks with drawings of mermaids and fish. It seems appropriate that I got a job doing exactly that!
