Looking back at 2016

It’s New Years Eve and I’m happy to be spending it at home, relaxing with my family.

In many ways it was a terrible year, but there were good things, too. I was fortunate to be able to attend GDC this year, and I made some strides forward in my art!

My main accomplishment was in learning how to animate game assets in Flash, a goal I have had for a long time. I was hired initially as an illustrator, and when I completed game assets they were handed over to the animator I work with, who would add some movement to the asset and upload it. Being able to handle my own animations has made me more well-rounded, and has also taken some of the burden off the animator. I’m looking forward to learning even more in the new year, especially as we transition the game from Flash to HTML5. We’ll have to be flexible and clever, as we always have been, and we’ll find a way to make it all work and look good!

I’ve put together a collection of some of my favourite things I’ve drawn in 2016 for Fish World. I learned some new tricks in Illustrator, and I think my work is getting better with each year that goes by.  Here’s to another year of art!
